Our speaker this month will be Matthew Shumar, coeditor of the second Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas which was published last year. Every single one of the more than 4,000 ten square mile blocks in Ohio received data over the six year (2006-2011) collection period, an amazing feat by the Ohio birding community and project coordinators.
Many birdclub members contributed data to OBBA2 and contributed important data. Ohio is one of the few states to complete and publish a 2nd atlas allowing researchers to see trends over time.
Matthew is also the Program Coordinator for the Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative, a collaboration of nonprofit groups, businesses, state and federal government agencies, and citizens working to advance bird conservation efforts.
In addition to his work with OBCI, he is in charge of web communications for the Association of Field Ornitholgists. Mathew will talk mainly about OBBA2, including the planning and data
collection as well as the analysis and results for the project. He will also be available to answer questions about any of his current projects.
