There was only a scattering of ducks at the north end today, perhaps because there were 5 Bald Eagles, including one adult. There was another (?) immature Bald Eagle just north of the Fairfield Causeway, along with about 500 ducks, mostly Mallards, but including a few Blacks and a Wigeon, 10 Ring-necked, 6 Greater and 5 Lesser Scaup, 40 Redheads, and 2 Common Goldeneye. Two Wild Turkeys crossed the road leading to Hanna Creek Marina.

Hueston Woods had 10 Common Goldeneye, 1 Bufflehead, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 3 Common Mergansers, and 6 Red-breasted Mergansers, along with 2 Herring Gulls.

Three Snow Geese in the field just off the gravel parking area. The Snow Geese were with a large flock of Canada Geese. The field also held hundreds of Mallards and Crows. Finally, one each Harrier, Red Tail and Kestrel, two Bluebirds, twenty Song Sparrows, three Swamp Sparrows and numerous Cardinals.
Best non-bird: a Coyote.

At least a dozen Lapland Longspurs and two Snow Buntings were still around the airport today. We saw them at the intersection of Druley and Kitchell Roads, southeast of the airport; but John and Linda Zempel saw them north of the airport yesterday, near the horse barn. We also saw another group of Lapland Lonspurs along 9-Mile Road, and a Rough-legged Hawk was at the intersection of 9-Mile and Route 227.

This is an update on the longspurs. When Darlena reported them at Richmond Airport on Sunday, she also had what she thought might be a Smith's Longspur. Hank and Lynette Armstrong and David Brinkman went up on Monday, January 13; they definitely believe that they had a Smith's, as well as a number of Lapland.

Also, today, January 14, Jeff Hays had several Laplands near New Trenton, Indiana.
