Wayne Wauligman led a herps trip today but we managed to do some birding. Before the trip Wayne spotted a Black crowned night herron. Also seen were - hjouse wren, yellow rumped warbler, blue gray gnatcatcher, 9 male shovelers, blue winged teal, coots, and a semi palmated plover. As to the plover Wayne called me this morning, Sunday to say after looking at his field guides he believes the bird was a Piping Plover not a semi palm. 4/20 Darlene and I attempted to locate the plover this morning but could not. Birds present at the ponds on Sunday were - Yellow warblers, house wrens Blue gray gnatcatchers, 20+
pectoral sandpipers, dowitchers, snipe.
The ponds are drying up fast but still some good numbers of shorebirds
