This month’s meeting will feature field trip coordinator Dave Helm, who will tell us about his trip last year to South Africa. Dave writes that he “will present the highlights of Birding and Botanizing South Africa. I made this trip in October 2018 with DeeAnne, Steve and Ann Bobonick and friends from Michigan. October is spring down there and the plants are blooming. The southern tip of the country is home to the Cape floral kingdom, an area of unique plants with high endemism. 400 species of birds were seen along with great mammals.”
In addition to photos, Dave will share entries from a watercolor journal he kept during the trip, and as a teaser he notes that “South Africa is an easy country to travel in, with great wine and restaurants, and the birding community has a wonderful guide with specific details for most locations and what birds are to be expected.”
