Oxbow Butterfly Count

For the fourth year, we’ll meet to count butterflies in the Oxbow. Our leader, Bob Nuhn,  who is a retired naturalist with the Hamilton County Park District, has been a compiler for the North American Butterfly Counts in SW Ohio, and his passion for butterflies is contagious. We hope to see some interesting species in this area with diverse habitat along the riverbank, in the prairies and in the crop fields.  Most of the walking will be on flat dirt roads. May be rocky at times.  Water and Sunscreen recommended. Beginners are welcome!

The trip will last approximately 2 hours. If there is time, we may visit Shawnee Lookout to look for more butterflies.

Directions to the Oxbow: From I-275, take the Lawrenceburg exit, and turn left onto U.S. 50. Turn left onto an unmarked drive just past the Shell station. Turn right when the road ends at a “T” intersection, then left to the parking lot.
