SUMMARY:Caesar Creek State Park with Bill Stanley
DESCRIPTION:Theme: Late Fall Migration\nLocation: Caesar Creek State Park\nDate: Saturday\, November 15\, 2025\nMeet: 8:00 A.M. at the Swimming Beach Parking Lot at Caesar Creek SP (see the directions below)\nLeader: Bill Stanley\, (513) 324-2796\, tyrannus58@gmail.com \nLate fall migration will be well underway and the focus of this trip will be waterfowl (ducks\, geese\, swans) and\nwater birds (i.e. loons\, grebes\, gulls etc.). Over the years Caesar Creek Lake has attracted numerous rarities\nduring the fall and there is always a good chance for a surprise to show up. Franklin’s Gulls have been fairly\nregular in recent years\, and Lesser Black-backed Gull\, Red-throated Loon and Black Scoter have recently been\nseen. Of course the diverse habitats of this large area attracts a host of other species and we expect to find a\ndiversity of species including Bald Eagles and a number of other raptors as well as late migrant and winter\nresident songbirds. \nOur trip leader\, Bill Stanley\, is a skilled and expert birder and an experienced and well-rounded naturalist.\nMany of you know Bill as he has led many field trips for ASO and several other local conservation organizations\nover the years. Bill is a long time ASO advocate and is our ASO chapter’s current president.\nIn addition to checking many sites around Caesars Creek Lake\, Bill will possibly make stops at nearby Spring\nValley Wildlife Area and the Roxanna gravel pits if time allows. This will be longer than a half day trip\nextending well past noon\, so be sure to bring a lunch and drinks. The trip will consist mostly of driving from\none lake view to another\, interspersed with short walks here and there. Restrooms are available throughout\nthe area. Assume it will be cold and dress accordingly. Ordinary rain will not cancel this trip. Scopes will be\nuseful of course\, but if you don’t have one don’t let that stop you from coming. If you have any questions\nabout this trip feel free to contact Bill. \nDirections: We will meet at the Caesar Creek swimming beach parking lot. From Cincinnati\, take I-71 north\nfrom I-275 and go north for about 28 miles to the State Route 73 exit # 45. Turn left (west) onto SR 73 and go\nabout 5.5 miles. After crossing the SR 73 Bridge over Caesar Creek Lake\, turn right at the State Park entrance\nand follow the signs to the swimming beach. \nFor more Information visit to the Caesar Creek State Park Website listed below.\nhttps://ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/caesar-creek-state-park\nHere is the link for the Spring Valley WA website.\nhttps://ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/spring-valley-wildlife-area \n(Contributed by Jay Stenger)
