We often marvel at how clever mockingbirds can be vocally, but incredible mimicry isn’t the only trick these birds have in their repertoire. Xavier professor Dr. George Farnsworth studied the puzzle-solving abilities of our local wild population and revealed amazing problem resolution abilities in untrained wild birds. By designing custom trapdoor feeders, Dr. Farnsworth and his students were able to peek into the avian mind and observe their ability to analyze a puzzle numerically in order to take the path of least resistance to a free dinner. Join us on Wednesday, March 18th at 7pm at the Sharon Centre to hear Dr. Farnsworth’s riveting findings and to see videos of the mockingbirds solving their puzzles.
