During the daylight hours of BLINK, we’re hosting a Bird Mural Walk in downtown Cincinnati with Julie Zickefoose, Saturday October 19 at 10 AM.
It’s like a field trip but we’ll view priceless, famed publications and birds on murals such as John Ruthven’s “Martha, the Last Passenger Pigeon”.
Meet at 10 AM at the Cincinnati and Hamilton Public Library downtown at 800 Vine Street inside the main front door.
We’ll start our morning inside the library with a viewing of the current page on view of John James Audubon’s famous double elephant folio “Birds of America”. Then we’ll have a chance to see one of the original, remaining copies of the late 1800’s book “Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of Birds of Ohio” by Ohio artist Genevieve Jones: we’ll hear about her family’s efforts to finish her work after her untimely death from typhoid fever in 1879 at age 32. Jone’s life and artwork are the subject of Joy M. Kiser’s lovely 2012 biography “America’s other Audubon”.
We’ll then head outside to view nearby bird murals, old and new!
We should finish around noon.
FYI: allow time for parking and walking to main entrance of the downtown library. Wear comfortable shoes.
