Somateria spectabilis
An immature female was shot by a hunter on the Ohio River in Boone County, opposite Rising Sun, on December 27.,1959 (Mengel 1965). This account refers to the specimen being turned over to Emerson Kemsis, but the specimen can no longer be located.
Another immature female was also shot “along the Ohio River in Brown County” on January 2, 1971 (Maslowski January 31, 1971, Thompson 1983).
A female was present and photographed on the Ohio River above Mehldahl Dam beginning at least November 25, 2017, and was also photographed on the Kentucky portion of the Ohio River, December 2 through 10, 2017 (Yandell 2018a, Caldwell 2018a). Accepted by KBRC (Yandell 2018b) and by OBRC (Cefus 2022a).
